Winter Nature Adventure (Feb. 11)
For all ages, but please register as an individual adult and you will be asked how many family members will be attending with you.
Bundle up for some exciting woodland fun & facts with our resident outdoor educator Tom Kirker. While most people think February is a frozen wasteland, there is a lot happening in Jeffrey Woods.
Learn how our woodland creatures have made adaptations to survive winter. Sparrows, finches, cardinals and starlings can be heard singing on sunny days. Owls and skunks are mating and repairing nests or dens for their young. It is also the snowiest month of the year, so we will look for and identify animal tracks. This month celebrates the Snow Full Moon and is also the month of Valentines. Hopefully, we will hear or see the “love language” of Jeffrey’s resident Barred Owls. If not, Tom will try to call them in.
Instructor: Tom Kirker
Tom is a retired teacher from Columbus City Schools, a part time ranger for the Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks and our resident outdoor educator. Tom has led numerous programs for Bexley Recreation and Parks, other organizations and regularly posts nature information on his FB.
Spring Warbler Walk (Apr. 29)
This is individual registration for ages 16+
Brightly colored warblers are some of the most exciting birds to see in the spring as they migrate north from their wintering grounds in Central and South America. Because warblers aren’t feeder birds and typically stick to forested areas, you’ll want to join birding and warbler expert James Muller for a Warbler Walk through Jeffrey Woods. James will help you spot, identify and meet these tiny and colorful winged beauties as they flit from branch to branch in search of insects. Binoculars recommended.
Instructor: James Muller
Longtime birder, James, started serious birding at 12 years old. He has seen more than 630 species across the United States, and has led numerous tours for the Black Swamp Bird Observatory and for Columbus Audubon. He is also an eBird reviewer, the creator of the Birding Central Ohio Facebook group (2300 members), and an advisor for the Ohio Young Birders Club.
