All activities are for all ages, but please register as an individual adult and you will be asked how many family members will be attending with you.

Spring Wildflower and Nature Stroll (May 6)

Instructor: Tom Kirker
After a long, cold winter - awaken to the wonders of spring! Join Tom Kirker (Bexley Recreation & Park’s resident outdoor educator) to discover an emerging spring woodland with the sights and sounds of birds, bees, trees, animals and plants. Tom will also share and identify Jeffrey Woods’ beautiful collection of wildflowers. All signs that the earth is coming to life and spring has sprung.

What's Wild In the Woods?  Everything! (May 27)
Instructor: Shannon Heist

This walk will explore Jeffrey Woods, Fields and Waterways. We will look for amphibians, mammals, birds, plants, fungi and creepy crawlies in the soil, under rocks, along creek banks and in the woodland canopy above. Be ready to go wild!

Creeking With Tom Kirker (July 15)
Instructor: Tom Kirker
Join outdoor educator Tom Kirker as he explores the shallows of Alum Creek at Jeffrey Woods.  Learn the importance of watershed conservation, stream dynamics and search for life within Alum Creek including fish, crayfish, mussels, insects, frogs and more. Nets will be provided, but participants are asked to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for wading. (Weather permitting.)



Instructor: Shannon Heist
Shannon is a Naturalist at Blacklick Woods Metro Park with the Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks. She has led  programs for all ages including Wild Edibles, Butterfly hikes, Flora & Fauna hikes, and many Fungi hikes. In her free time, Shannon enjoys baking and spending time with her dog, Rosie.

Tom is a retired Columbus City Schools elementary teacher and current ranger for the Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks. He is also the Bexley Recreation and Parks' resident outdoor educator. Tom has led numerous programs for us and a variety of other organizations. He regularly posts nature information and articles in local publications and social media.
