For activities labeled ALL AGES, please register as an individual adult and you will be asked how many family members will be attending with you.

June 15 - Make & Take: Butterfly/Hummingbird Attracting Hanging Basket (18 & Up)

Instructor: Colleen Dill Sapp
Make and take home a hanging-flower container of richly-colored annuals that are not only beautiful, but will also attract hummingbirds and butterflies to your living space. Also learn a little about what attracts butterflies and hummingbirds from Colleen, manager of Dill’s Greenhouse. Plant supplies provided. Wear appropriate clothing, bring garden gloves and a trowel.

June 21 - Birds, Bats and Bugs Under the Strawberry Moon (All Ages)
Instructor: Nora Steele
Learn what thrives in the nighttime skies and the wee hours at Jeffrey Woods. Enjoy a summer evening under the stars and leafy canopy. Listen for sounds of singing insects and hooting owls. Look for soaring chimney swifts and insect-devouring bats. Make s’mores and take a leisurely woodland walk under June’s Full Moon and learn why native people named it the Strawberry Moon.

June 23 - The A Bee C’s Of Bees and Beekeeping (All Ages)
Instructor: Dave Noble, Red Beard Bees

Come explore the world of bees right here in Bexley! Join Dave Noble of Red Beard Bees for an exciting, whirlwind tour of bees that is sure to be fun and informative for the whole family (ages 5 and up). Dave will lead you through the A Bee C's of bees and a discussion of the world of beekeeping. He will even take you on a guided tour of a live honeybee colony, weather permitting.

July 13 - Creeking with Tom (All Ages)
Instructor: Tom Kirker    
Join outdoor educator and Metro Park ranger Tom Kirker and explore the shallows of Alum Creek at Jeffrey Woods. Have fun getting wet while learning the importance of watershed conservation, stream dynamics and Alum Creek life including fish, crayfish, mussels, insects, frogs and more. Nets will be provided, but participants are asked to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for wading. (Weather permitting.)

July 20 - It’s a Small World Micro Walk: Lichens, Mushrooms & Moss (18 & Up)
Instructor: Shannon Heist  
Explore the small but very large world of gooey, crunchy, hairy, scaly, colorful, shape-shifting, lichens, mosses and mushrooms. Often misunderstood, you will learn about their differences and similarities and how these seemingly small entities play a large role in our woodlands and environment.

July 21 - Paint & Sip Class (18 & Up)
Instructor: Caton Williamson  
Sip some refreshing lemonade and enjoy tasty, summer cookies while painting a selected work of nature art created by the instructor, who will also give you tips on creating your own artwork. (Supplies provided, but please wear appropriate clothing and bring an apron.)

Former Naturalist at Wahkeena Nature Preserve, Hocking Hills in charge of program development, natural history, and multiple nature educational workshops, classes, presentations and events.

Instructor: Shannon Heist
Shannon is a Naturalist at Blacklick Woods Metro Park with the Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks. She has led  programs for all ages including Wild Edibles, Butterfly hikes, Flora & Fauna hikes, and many Fungi hikes. In her free time, Shannon enjoys baking and spending time with her dog, Rosie.

Instructor: Dave Noble
Professional local beekeeper, beekeeping trainer, educator and owner/operator of Red Beard Bees producing local products in a sustainable manner.

Instructor: Tom Kirker
Tom is a retired Columbus City Schools elementary teacher and current ranger for the Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks. He is also the Bexley Recreation and Parks' resident outdoor educator. Tom has led numerous programs for us and a variety of other organizations. He regularly posts nature information and articles in local publications and social media. 

Instructor: Caton Williamson
Seasonal naturalist with Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. Ohio Wesleyan graduate with a major in Arts, Studio Arts and Zoology.
