The Bexley Marlin Swim Team is a recreational, competitive swim team operated through Bexley Parks & Recreation. This team is open to swimmers ages 5-18 interested in competitive swimming. Coaches will work with swimmers to develop four competitive swim strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) and to develop a love for the sport.
Swimmer safety is the top priority of the Bexley Marlin Swim Team. Therefore, coaches will observe and evaluate swimmers during the first week of practices. We encourage all parents to objectively consider their child's swimming ability and the program requirements before registering him/her for the team. Swimmers who do not demonstrate readiness for competitive swimming will be referred back for additional lessons.
To ensure a safe environment for all, swimmers must be able to meet the following minimum requirements:
- Swimmers must be 5 years old by June 1, 2024.
- Swimmers must be able to continuously swim a minimum distance of freestyle without stopping, treading water, or holding onto lane lines. The required distances are 25 yds for 10 and under and 50 yds for 11 and older.

- Swimmers must be able to enter the water on their own and without a parent on deck.
- Swimmers need to be comfortable swimming in deep water.

Registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis and are capped by age group for swimmer safety, coaching availability, and pool capacity. Once the cap is reached, swimmers will be placed on a waitlist. If additional spots become available, we will contact those on the waitlist in order.

Practice Schedule
Practice begins for all U6, U10, and U12-18 swimmers on Tuesday, May 28. Practice begins for U8 swimmers on Wednesday, May 29. These first two days will be evening practices - Times TBA.
- U6 group will practice on Tuesday/Thursday 8-9 am
- U8 group will practice on Monday/Wednesday/Friday 8-9 am
- U10 group will practice Monday-Friday 8-9 am
- U12-U18 groups will practice Monday-Friday 7-8 am
*U10-U18 have a meet-only registration option and do not count towards age group registration caps. To be eligible for this option, swimmers must be registered with a USA Swimming club team during the 2024 summer long course season. Meet-only swimmers must attend 1 Bexley practice per week. Parents may be asked to provide club team verification.
League Meets
We will compete in the Suburban Swim Club League (SSCL) and participate in up to five league dual meets and two exhibitions during the season. U6 swimmers will only swim exhibition meets and U14-U18 swimmers will only swim league dual meets. Swimmers in U8, U10, and U12 age groups will be assessed for the appropriate meets by coaches. The current league schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, June 4 (Evening), Mock Meet & Pre-Season Event
- Saturday, June 8 (Morning), Developmental Meet @ Swim & Racquet
- Tuesday, June 11 (Evening), Swim & Racquet @ Bexley
- Tuesday, June 18 (Evening), Bexley @ Grandview
- Saturday, June 22 (Morning), Developmental Meet @ Bexley
- Tuesday, June 25 (Evening), Bexley @ Hilliard
Tuesday Meets – Expect swim warm-ups to start at 4:30 pm, with the meet starting at 6:00 pm.
Saturday Meets – Expect swim warm-ups to start at 8:00 am, with the meet starting at 9:00 am.
*Meet arrival, warm-up, and start times for all meets will be confirmed as the season approaches.

Jenny Nicol Meet - Saturday, June 29
Every year, The Bexley Marlins hold a fun fundraising meet in honor of a former Bexley Marlin swimmer and coach, Jenny Nicol. This meet is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, June 29, at the Bexley Pool, and we’ll be joined by Jenny’s family.
Fourth Of July Parade - Thursday, July 4th
Every year, The Bexley Marlins swimmers and coaches march or ride in the Fourth of July parade. This year’s parade will be on Thursday, July 4th. Float decoration and parade logistics will be confirmed closer to the event.
SSCL League Championships - Week of July 8
We encourage all eligible swimmers to participate in the league championship meet as a culmination of their season. SSCL Champs is TBA.
Marlins End of Season Party - Saturday, July 13
We will wrap up the season with a fun celebration and recognition of our team and coaches. The party starts at the Shelter House at 5:30 pm and moves to the Pool from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
