Butterfly Planters and Craft for Kids (June 20)
Kids will learn about butterflies and attracting pollinators to their outdoor spaces with a variety of fun activities and handouts. They will also decorate a planter with a variety of embellishments, thumb print butterfly impressions and plant some butterfly-attracting plants to take home.
Going Buggy (July 18)
Spiders, Ants, Beetles … Oh My! Kids will enjoy investigating the dark and damp places of Jeffrey Woods in search of creepy crawlies. Be prepared to learn, make some new friends and get down and dirty.
Creeking in the Shallows of Alum Creek (July 25)
Join Shannon and Kate for this lively exploration of Alum Creek Shallows at Jeffrey Woods. Have some fun discovering the importance of watershed conservation, stream dynamics and Alum Creek life including fish, crayfish, mussels, insects, frogs and more. Prepare to enjoy and get wet. Wear appropriate shoes/clothes for creeking.
Instructor: Shannon Heist
Shannon is a Naturalist at Blacklick Woods Metro Park with the Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks. She has led programs for all ages including Wild Edibles, Butterfly hikes, Flora & Fauna hikes, and many Fungi hikes. In her free time, Shannon enjoys baking and spending time with her dog, Rosie.

Seasonal naturalist with Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. Ohio Wesleyan graduate with a major in Arts, Studio Arts and Zoology.
Instructor: Jenn Wallace
Jenn has a degree in Natural and Historical Interpretation from Hocking College. She has worked, interned and volunteered for a variety of environmental programs and projects as an interpretive educator/naturalist including Metro Park Blacklick Woods, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Great Parks of Hamilton County. Currently a mom of three young children, Jenn shares her time with family and environmental programs.
