The Bexley Community Gardens are offering a variety of classes and workshops this season. All classes and workshops are open to the public. Fees cover the cost of the instructor and items that are provided to participants such as supplies, plants, flowers, seeds, instruction booklets, etc.
What’s easier than walking into your own garden to harvest flowers for a fresh floral arrangement? In this series of three classes, you will learn how to start and care for your own cutting garden,design arrangements with the flowers you grow, and the Fall tasks which prepare your garden for the next season of flowers. Each class must be registered for separately. You are free to attend only those sessions you choose. You are not required to attend all three sessions.
Intro to Cut Flower Gardening (Apr. 29)
In this course we will discuss site selection, seed starting indoors vs. direct sowing, and basic care of your garden. You will go home with everything you need to get started, including seed starting supplies and a cutting garden instruction manual.
Floral Design Using Local (Aug. 19)
Blooms Once your cutting garden is flourishing, what do you do with all those blooms? In this course, we’ll teach you how to cut, prepare and arrange your flowers. And you’ll take home a beautiful arrangement made from local blooms.
Fall Seed Saving, Bulb Planting and Tuber Harvesting (Oct. 14)
Now that it’s Fall, your garden is winding down. You’ll learn how to save seeds and tubers, preserve the last of this year’s harvest, plant bulbs for Spring blooms and prepare your garden for the next gardening season.
