Please register as an individual adult and you will be asked how many family members will be attending with you for any activities that are "All Ages."Intro to Nature Photography (Sep. 6) - 15+Instructor: Leah ConwayJoin Leah, wildlife photographer and naturalist, in our outdoor classroom of Jeffrey Woods as you learn the ins & outs of your camera including settings, shutter speeds, ISO, how to create the image that’s in your mind and find the right subjects. Cell phone photographers are welcome to join in and learn how to capture the right photo with lighting and angles, but the class is geared towards camera users. Brief handout included. Meet resident and migratory birds including a variety of warblers stopping over at Jeffrey Woods on their way south. All skill levels are welcome. Binoculars are helpful, but we can share.It’s A Small World of Fungi, Lichen and Moss Walk (Sep. 27) - 18+Instructors: Shannon HeistJoin Shannon, Metro Park Naturalist, for this fun and informative stroll through a fall Jeffrey Woods and discover the mysterious worlds of hairy, scaly, gooey, colorful, shape-shifting lichens, mosses and mushrooms and their importance to the woodland and environment.Fall Color Walk (Oct. 18) - All AgesInstructor: Tom KirkerFall is a relaxing time for a woodland hike among a variety of trees, shrubs and plants at Jeffrey Woods. From the colors of changing leaves to the deep greens in the conifer grove - learn why evergreens don’t’ lose their needles, why deciduous trees do and how birds and other critters prepare for winter.Crafting Herbal Cocktails (Dec. 12) - 21+Instructor: PJ FordJust in time for holiday get-togethers. Join PJ Ford, former Cocktail Director at The Light of Seven Matchsticks and Law Bird, as this Bexley alum demonstrates the art of herbal mixology. PJ will share his original recipes for delicious cocktails that incorporate fresh, dried and herbal syrups into alcoholic and alcohol-free variations creating a variety of delicious flavors. Sip samples, take home recipes and join the fun.

Enjoy a guided hike with Shannon, Metro Park Naturalist,  and learn all about the birds in Jeffery Woods and your own backyard! Participants will learn to identify backyard birds by their behavior, calls, shape and color. Binoculars are highly recommended, but we can share. Parents are welcome. Best suited for beginning birders and their families.A Freaky Fun Halloween Walk (Oct. 4)Instructor: Shannon Heist, Metro Parks Naturalist Join Shannon, Metro Park Naturalist, and enjoy a fun Halloween Walk through Jeffrey Woods and discover the mysteries of ooey-gooey fungi and how birds, bats, bugs, snakes and other woodland critters prepare for winter’s cold.  Look for abandoned spider webs, turn over some rotting logs, check under bark and peek under dark rocks. Learn how scary things aren’t really scary and take home a Halloween craft. Spy glasses for magnification will be available to share. Parents are welcome. Fall Scavenger Hunt for Kids (Nov. 8)Instructor: Caton Williamson, Metro Park NaturalistKids will enjoy a fun nature hunt through Jeffrey Woods to discover the wonders of fall. Join Metro Park Naturalist Caton and look for signs of  the season. Explorers will search for pinecones, nuts, animal tracks, different colored and shaped leaves, spider webs, mushrooms, creepy-crawlies, berries and so much more. Spy glasses for magnification will be available to share. Parents are welcome.Holiday Ornament Painting (Nov. 23) - All AgesInstructor: Nora Steele, Nature Artist and Naturalist    *Register as an adult and you will indicate how many are attending for your family.Just in time for the holidays. With the help of Nora, naturalist and nature artist, children will create and paint beautiful, nature-themed ornaments that  make perfect seasonal decorations. Parents welcome. Register and then drop in anytime between the times listed, This family-friendly project takes approximately 45 minutes to complete  - so schedule your arrival time accordingly.
