Bexley Rec & Parks Department

The Bexley Recreation & Parks Department is located at 165 N. Parkview Ave in Bexley, Ohio. We operate out of Jeffrey Mansion, which was deeded to the City in 1941 from the Jeffrey Family for recreational use. Jeffrey Mansion resides within Jeffrey Park, which is nearly 40 acres, including the two Commonwealth Parks located on the east side of Parkview Avenue. A large portion south and west of Jeffrey Mansion is a natural woodland traversed by walking trails. Alum Creek forms the park’s western boundary. Other recreation opportunities include a play apparatus for children, two tennis courts, four pickleball courts, picnic areas with grills, a play field and the community aquatic facility. Jeffrey Park is open for visitors to enjoy daily from dawn until dusk.

Personal Bio: I was born and raised in Bexley, Ohio. As a 1997 Bexley High School graduate, I spent many days playing recreation sports at Commonwealth, working at Jeffrey Summer Camp as a counselor and enjoying partying all night long at the my High School Graduation Party at Jeffrey Mansion. I attended THE Otterbein College and graduated with a degree in Sport Management. I have been with the Recreation and Parks Department since 2003 and have enjoyed being able to serve the community which means so much to me. My wife, Jessica, and I live in Bexley and love raising our three boys in our community.

Personal Bio: I grew up in Groveport and graduated in 2000. I then attended Indiana State University where I played soccer for four years and majored in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration. I started working for Bexley Rec as an intern in the summer of 2004. I became a Recreation Supervisor in 2005 and after starting my family in 2014, I switched roles within the department for a few years, then became Deputy Director in 2018. I have also been coaching high school soccer since 2009. My husband, Dan, and I reside in Gahanna with our two daughters, Elizabeth and Julia, and our Aussie, Zeppelin. I love music, playing soccer, skiing, and spending time with my family. My favorite thing about working for Bexley Rec is the amazing support we have for each other in the office and within the community.

Personal Bio: My husband was raised in Bexley, and as with so many of us who marry someone from Bexley, there was never any question that we would live in Bexley, I am the mother to four daughters and nine grandchildren. I graduated from OSU in 1971. After working for the Department of Transportation and taking time to have children I began working for the Recreation Department in 1989. They called and asked if I could help them out with answering the phone for a month or two and I have been here ever since. (The phones can be very busy here at the Recreation Department). As time passed I eventually became a Recreation Supervisor. I oversee both youth and adult programs and that variety makes my job very interesting. My time at the Recreation Department never seems like a job but more like coming to the Manion to take care of our Bexley family.
Recreation Supervisor
Kevin Smith, Recreation Supervisor
Kevin Smith

Personal Bio: I joined the recreation department in November of 2016 as a recreation supervisor overseeing both youth and adult sport programming. I was born and raised in the Cleveland area and have spent the vast majority of my life agonizing over heartbreaking World Series defeats and the countless losses by the Cleveland Browns. I graduated from THE Ohio State University in 2013 with a degree in Sport and Leisure Studies and was finally able to cheer for successful and competent sports teams. What I love most about this job is the community feel; I love being able to impact so many people, both young and old, by putting on programming and community events. In my free time I love to read, spend time with family and play golf. My wife, Amanda, and I live in Hilliard with our young son, Logan.
Recreation Supervisor
Kristen Schweitzer, Recreation Supervisor
Kristen Schweitzer

Personal Bio: I joined Bexley Recreation in April 2020. Originally from the Cleveland area, I graduated from Ohio University with a degree in communications and public advocacy. After holding positions in state government and non-profit organizations, I realized how much I enjoyed working with older adults in the community. My favorite part about working in recreation is meeting new people and connecting older adults through creative programming. I live in Bexley with my husband and two young sons - another generation of disappointed Cleveland sports fans.
Recreation Supervisor
Katie Sarvas, Recreation Supervisor
Katie Sarvas
Ph: 614-559-4300
E: ksarvas@bexley.org

Personal Bio: My name is Katie Sarvas, I am a Recreation Supervisor who oversees our Jeffrey Summer Camp, Backpack, and SOCO programs. I was born and raised in Bexley and graduated from Bexley High School. As a child I participated in a lot of Bexley Recreation Programs, along with attending Jeffrey Summer Camp. In High School and in College I worked at the Bexley Pool as a lifeguard and swim instructor for several years. After college I worked at the Jeffrey Mansion Preschool as a teacher and a Director of one of our Summer Camps. I graduated Tiffin University with an education degree for middle school math and science. I have worked at Bexley Recreation as a Recreation Supervisor for over 6 years. The best part of my job in not only feeling like I am giving back to my community that gave so much to me, but is working with all of the people I get to work with. I love watching counselors learn and grow as human beings move on into their professional lives. Now I am watching kids I used to watch when I was younger become counselors, go off to college, and start to get into their professional lives. It truly is a very unique job and being able to really watch so many people grow up is very special. Bexley is a very special place, it is a small little city where almost everyone knows everyone, making it feel like a big family in a way. Outside of work you might find me out and about different parks, cities, states, or countries. I love to travel and experience as much as I can! You might also see me either walking or driving around with my dog Gus, he really prefers driving since he gets to stick his head out the windows, but his favorite is the sunroof. So far it is just me and Gus and hundreds and hundreds of kids that I call my family, along with all of the staff in the office and working on site in the programs.

Since joining the Bexley Recreation and Parks staff five years ago, I have really enjoyed starting my professional career surrounded by some amazing coworkers, counselors, and kids in the community. Creating a fun, safe, and exciting environment for the kids in this community is something that I love being a part of!
