Bexley Rec & Parks Department

The Bexley Recreation & Parks Department is located at 165 N. Parkview Ave in Bexley, Ohio. We operate out of Jeffrey Mansion, which was deeded to the City in 1941 from the Jeffrey Family for recreational use. Jeffrey Mansion resides within Jeffrey Park, which is nearly 40 acres, including the two Commonwealth Parks located on the east side of Parkview Avenue. A large portion south and west of Jeffrey Mansion is a natural woodland traversed by walking trails. Alum Creek forms the park’s western boundary. Other recreation opportunities include a play apparatus for children, two tennis courts, four pickleball courts, picnic areas with grills, a play field and the community aquatic facility. Jeffrey Park is open for visitors to enjoy daily from dawn until dusk.

I was born and raised in Bexley, Ohio. As a 1997 Bexley High School graduate, I spent many days playing recreation sports at Commonwealth, working at Jeffrey Summer Camp as a counselor and enjoying partying all night long at the my High School Graduation Party at Jeffrey Mansion. I attended THE Otterbein College and graduated with a degree in Sport Management. I have been with the Recreation and Parks Department since 2003 and have enjoyed being able to serve the community which means so much to me. My wife, Jessica, and I live in Bexley and love raising our three boys in our community.

I grew up in Groveport and graduated in 2000. I then attended Indiana State University where I played soccer for four years and majored in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration. I started working for Bexley Rec as an intern in the summer of 2004, then became full time in 2005. I have also been coaching high school soccer since 2009. My husband, Dan, and I reside in Gahanna with our two daughters, Elizabeth and Julia, and our Aussie, Zeppelin. I love music, playing soccer, skiing, and spending time with my family. My favorite thing about working for Bexley Rec is the amazing support we have for each other in the office and within the community.

My name is Katie Sarvas, I am a Recreation Superintendent who oversees our Jeffrey Summer Camp, Backpack, SOCO, and Preschool programs. I was born and raised in Bexley and graduated from Bexley High School. I graduated Tiffin University with an education degree for middle school math and science. I have worked at Bexley Recreation since 2007 in various positions. Outside of work I love to travel and experience as much as I can! I also enjoy coaching Girls High School Soccer. You might also see me either walking or driving around with my dog Gus, he really prefers driving since he gets to stick his head out the windows, but his favorite is the sunroof.

I joined the recreation department in November of 2016 as a recreation supervisor overseeing both youth and adult sport programming. I was born and raised in the Cleveland area and have spent the vast majority of my life agonizing over heartbreaking World Series defeats and the countless losses by the Cleveland Browns. I graduated from THE Ohio State University in 2013 with a degree in Sport and Leisure Studies and was finally able to cheer for successful and competent sports teams. What I love most about this job is the community feel; I love being able to impact so many people, both young and old, by putting on programming and community events. In my free time I love to read, spend time with family and play golf. My wife, Amanda, and I live in Hilliard with our three children.

I was born and raised in Bexley, Ohio. I graduated in 2014 from Bexley High school where I played basketball and baseball for the Lions. I attended Kent State University and graduated in 2018 with a degree in Sports Administration. From there I move out of Ohio down south to Memphis, Tennessee where I worked for the Memphis Grizzlies in ticket sales. I was there for 4 years selling full menu tickets and running our youth basketball program. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, biking, and eating at new restaurants in Columbus. I am a huge fan of all the Cleveland sports teams even though the heartbreaks. I am very excited to come back to Bexley and be involved with the community and enjoy the ride with all of you!

I was born and raised in Leesburg, Florida (a small town about an hour north of Mickey Mouse's house). I grew up loving sports, fishing, the beach, and Disney. I am an avid sports fan who loves the OKC Thunder, St. Louis Cardinals, and Jacksonville Jaguars. I have been working in the recreation field since I was a volunteer as a high school sophomore. After graduating high school, I went to the University of West Florida, where I graduated with a degree in Sports Management. After earning my degree, I began my career as a full time employee with Leesburg working throughout the recreation department, but mostly with the youth and adult athletic leagues. Now I have made the jump from Leesburg all the way up here to Bexley. My girlfriend and I live just north of here with our dog. We are looking forward to exploring what all Bexley and the midwest has to offer. I can't wait to get to know everyone in this community and be involved with everything happening here!

I joined Bexley Recreation in April 2020. Originally from the Cleveland area, I graduated from Ohio University with a degree in communications and public advocacy. After holding positions in state government and non-profit organizations, I realized how much I enjoyed working with older adults in the community. My favorite part about working in recreation is meeting new people and connecting older adults through creative programming. I live in Bexley with my husband and two young sons - another generation of disappointed Cleveland sports fans.

My husband was raised in Bexley, and as with so many of us who marry someone from Bexley, there was never any question that we would live in Bexley, I am the mother to four daughters and nine grandchildren. I graduated from OSU in 1971. After working for the Department of Transportation and taking time to have children I began working for the Recreation Department in 1989. They called and asked if I could help them out with answering the phone for a month or two and I have been here ever since. (The phones can be very busy here at the Recreation Department). As time passed I eventually became a Recreation Supervisor. I oversee both youth and adult programs and that variety makes my job very interesting. My time at the Recreation Department never seems like a job but more like coming to the Manion to take care of our Bexley family.

Hello! My name is Emily Sweet and I’m a Recreation Coordinator for Bexley Recreation and Parks. I oversee the BACpack and SOCO programs during the school year, and Jeffrey Summer Camp during the summertime! I grew up in Mansfield, Ohio, but came to Columbus to pursue a degree from Capital University, where I graduated from in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. Throughout my undergraduate career, I also studied education. The people I met in college and the Columbus community are the reasons I decided to stay in this city after graduating college. Since joining the Bexley Recreation and Parks staff five years ago, I have really enjoyed starting my professional career surrounded by some amazing coworkers, counselors, and kids in the community. Creating a fun, safe, and exciting environment for the kids in this community is something that I love being a part of!

I grew up attending Bexley rec programs. I have fond memories of swimming at the old community pool and attending Jeffrey Mansion Preschool. I joined the rec department in a part time role in January 2020, and my role is constantly changing with the needs of the department. When I am not making social media posts or working in the office, you can find me crafting, making creative solutions to problems with the most unexpected supplies, and being the life of the (socially distanced) party. I live in South Bexley with my husband, Zeb, and our two children.

I grew up in Bexley and graduated in 2000. I attended Ohio University and graduated with a degree in Organizational Communications. Since graduating, I have worked in the Events & Catering field for the last 16 years. I have always been tied to the Recreation Department in some capacity, through sports, working as a Jeffrey Camp Counselor, and now raising my own kids in the community! I am excited to combine my love of events and the Bexley community, by working with the Rec Department on mansion rentals and community celebrations. My husband, Kevin, and I live in South Bexley with our two children, Lilly and Henry.
