Pilates lengthens and strengthens the muscles as well as uses core strength for every exercise. Although pilates is non-aerobic, it is an extremely effective way to strengthen and condition the muscles of the abdomen and back, thus helping to build a “girdle of strength” around the spine. On-2 salsa originated in New York, and is often referred to as “New York Style” salsa. It was popularized by Eddie Torres, who helped formalize the timing of the dance. On-2 salsa is a style of salsa where the dancers take their break step on the second beat of the measure (“on 2”), as opposed to the first beat ("on 1").This class is meant for beginner to intermediate levels; by the end of this series, you should be totally comfortable attending social dance events here in Columbus. Dance shoes are recommended for men, and heels are recommended for women, but these are not mandatory. No partners necessary. All are welcome!Instructor: Evan FloresOriginally from New York City, Evan Flores learned how to dance at the famous Nieves Dance School. There, he learned how to dance Salsa On-2, and eventually performed with the team at many events around New York and Long Island. Students will learn and master the exciting but challenging board game ‘Pandemic.’ The game allows players to work together towards their goal, use deep problem solving skills, initiate tasks and focus with the group. Midweek Reset will incorporate movement and relaxation. There may be breath work or mediation during the session.  The first 30 minutes will be seated and standing gentle yoga, and the second 30 minutes will be yin yoga, restorative yoga or a combination which will consist of yoga poses that will be held from 2-6 minutes (yin) or up to 15 minutes (restorative).  Class is appropriate for all levels, but getting up and down from the floor will be required. The Jones Chess Academy will provide students with the opportunity to learn chess history, world champion openings, solve middle game puzzles, practice endgame patterns, and utilize the necessary tools for tournament play. Each week, students will learn at least one theme on the display board, practice and create their own positions using that theme, and then engage in a tournament game against another student. All students will be able to earn prizes for their hard work.If Bexley schools are closed for weather-related reasons, classes will be held online via Zoom. Instructions will be emailed to participants. Instructor: Kyle JonesKyle has coached more than 20 schools over the past 20 years. Kyle graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's in Science in Psychology, is completing his Master’s in Early Childhood Education, earned his Protecting God’s Children certification, and has achieved the titles of Candidate Master (classical) and National Master (blitz) from the United States Chess Federation. From player to coach, Kyle has been a part of more than 40 state championship titles and 15 national titles. He was crowned the 2015-16 State of Ohio Speed Chess Champion (3rd title overall). Additionally, he was honored by Fox Sports Ohio, the Dispatch, 10tv, the Governor, the Mayor, the Board of Education, the Senate and the House of Representatives for his chess achievements.

Our program combines the expertise of highly trained speech and occupational therapists with the joys of playtime using obstacle courses, sensory bins, crafts, story-time and fine-motor activities. Our class is sure to be a fun and engaging learning and relationship-building experience for children and their caregivers. Whether you're looking for a challenge, need support or just a place to have fun, we meet every child where they are developmentally and can curate our class to all.Instructors: Christina Johnson and Alexis MarinChristina is a licensed Occupational Therapist and has been practicing since 2015. She graduated from Rush University in Chicago with a Masters of Occupational Therapy following a Bachelors of Psychology at The Ohio State University (go bucks!).  She has worked with children of all ages and in various settings including a sensory-based outpatient clinic and in early invention. She has two children, Rooney (girl, age 3) and Delta (boy, age 1) and is married to her husband, Matt. She has always used a play-based approach to therapy but was ready to step outside the therapy world and use her background to provide fun, engaging classes through The Play Spot that focuses on building developmental skills with her partner and friend, Alexis (speech therapist). She enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to podcasts, live music, reading and being outside.Alexis has been a practicing speech-language pathologist (SLP) for the past 8 years. She received degrees from Butler University (Go Dawgs!) and Indiana State. Alexis found her passion in pediatrics and has previously served in sensory clinics, schools, and in-home all with a focus on PLAY. Outside of the speech world, Alexis enjoys spending time outdoors exploring in and around Columbus with her two children Jayce and Ayla, partner John, and dog Nyla. She also enjoys self-development podcasts, DIYs, and trying local coffee shops. She's thrilled to partner with her friend and fellow OT, Christina, to mainstream their play skills to the general public and provide fun, educational classes through The Play Spot!

You will learn about Ohio mammals and how to find visible clues of them in the wild during this fun, hands-on class inside Jeffrey Mansion. Weather depending, participants will then take a short walk outside to look for the signs of the wildlife they learned about inside. There will be replicas of mammal tracks, scat, skulls and furs available to view. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot. In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition.Returning Student Early Registration for Fall 2025 Participants (Dec. 1 - 30)All participants who were enrolled in the 2025 Fall TKD program will receive an email to register early. Green belt and up may register for the intermediate class. Beginner (Tue/Thu)Following the principle of continuous improvement, students will learn the basics of Taekwondo from blocks, kicks, and punches to beginner sparring and forms.Intermediate (Mon/Wed) Building on the skills learned in the beginner class, the intermediate class will combine these basic skills into new forms and techniques for sparring and self defense. This is a contact sparringclass and protective gear will be available. Students must have reached green belt before registering for the intermediate class.Instructor: Carl LaVerdiereCarl is a third degree black belt who has been  teaching since 2011. On-2 salsa originated in New York, and is often referred to as “New York Style” salsa. It was popularized by Eddie Torres, who helped formalize the timing of the dance. On-2 salsa is a style of salsa where the dancers take their break step on the second beat of the measure (“on 2”), as opposed to the first beat ("on 1").This class is meant for beginner to intermediate levels; by the end of this series, you should be totally comfortable attending social dance events here in Columbus. Dance shoes are recommended for men, and heels are recommended for women, but these are not mandatory. No partners necessary. Midweek Reset will incorporate movement and relaxation. There may be breath work or mediation during the session.  The first 30 minutes will be seated and standing gentle yoga, and the second 30 minutes will be yin yoga, restorative yoga or a combination which will consist of yoga poses that will be held from 2-6 minutes (yin) or up to 15 minutes (restorative).  Class is appropriate for all levels, but getting up and down from the floor will be required. Kyle graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's in Science in Psychology, is completing his Master’s in Early Childhood Education, earned his Protecting God’s Children certification, and has achieved the titles of Candidate Master (classical) and National Master (blitz) from the United States Chess Federation. From player to coach, Kyle has been a part of more than 40 state championship titles and 15 national titles. He was crowned the 2015-16 State of Ohio Speed Chess Champion (3rd title overall). Our class is sure to be a fun and engaging learning and relationship-building experience for children and their caregivers. Whether you're looking for a challenge, need support or just a place to have fun, we meet every child where they are developmentally and can curate our class to all.Instructors: Christina Johnson and Alexis MarinChristina is a licensed Occupational Therapist and has been practicing since 2015. She graduated from Rush University in Chicago with a Masters of Occupational Therapy following a Bachelors of Psychology at The Ohio State University (go bucks!).  She has worked with children of all ages and in various settings including a sensory-based outpatient clinic and in early invention. She has two children, Rooney (girl, age 3) and Delta (boy, age 1) and is married to her husband, Matt. She has always used a play-based approach to therapy but was ready to step outside the therapy world and use her background to provide fun, engaging classes through The Play Spot that focuses on building developmental skills with her partner and friend, Alexis (speech therapist). She enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to podcasts, live music, reading and being outside.Alexis has been a practicing speech-language pathologist (SLP) for the past 8 years. She received degrees from Butler University (Go Dawgs!) and Indiana State. Alexis found her passion in pediatrics and has previously served in sensory clinics, schools, and in-home all with a focus on PLAY. Outside of the speech world, Alexis enjoys spending time outdoors exploring in and around Columbus with her two children Jayce and Ayla, partner John, and dog Nyla. She also enjoys self-development podcasts, DIYs, and trying local coffee shops. She's thrilled to partner with her friend and fellow OT, Christina, to mainstream their play skills to the general public and provide fun, educational classes through The Play Spot!

Students will learn and master the exciting but challenging board game ‘Pandemic.’ The game allows players to work together towards their goal, use deep problem solving skills, initiate tasks and focus with the group. Midweek Reset will incorporate movement and relaxation. There may be breath work or mediation during the session.  The first 30 minutes will be seated and standing gentle yoga, and the second 30 minutes will be yin yoga, restorative yoga or a combination which will consist of yoga poses that will be held from 2-6 minutes (yin) or up to 15 minutes (restorative).  Class is appropriate for all levels, but getting up and down from the floor will be required. Each week, students will learn at least one theme on the display board, practice and create their own positions using that theme, and then engage in a tournament game against another student. All students will be able to earn prizes for their hard work.If Bexley schools are closed for weather-related reasons, classes will be held online via Zoom. Instructions will be emailed to participants. Instructor: Kyle JonesKyle has coached more than 20 schools over the past 20 years. Kyle graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's in Science in Psychology, is completing his Master’s in Early Childhood Education, earned his Protecting God’s Children certification, and has achieved the titles of Candidate Master (classical) and National Master (blitz) from the United States Chess Federation. From player to coach, Kyle has been a part of more than 40 state championship titles and 15 national titles. He was crowned the 2015-16 State of Ohio Speed Chess Champion (3rd title overall). Midweek Reset will incorporate movement and relaxation. There may be breath work or mediation during the session.  The first 30 minutes will be seated and standing gentle yoga, and the second 30 minutes will be yin yoga, restorative yoga or a combination which will consist of yoga poses that will be held from 2-6 minutes (yin) or up to 15 minutes (restorative).  Class is appropriate for all levels, but getting up and down from the floor will be required. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition.Returning Student Early Registration for Fall 2025 Participants (Dec. 1 - 30)All participants who were enrolled in the 2025 Fall TKD program will receive an email to register early. Green belt and up may register for the intermediate class. Beginner (Tue/Thu)Following the principle of continuous improvement, students will learn the basics of Taekwondo from blocks, kicks, and punches to beginner sparring and forms.Intermediate (Mon/Wed) Building on the skills learned in the beginner class, the intermediate class will combine these basic skills into new forms and techniques for sparring and self defense. This is a contact sparringclass and protective gear will be available. The Jones Chess Academy will provide students with the opportunity to learn chess history, world champion openings, solve middle game puzzles, practice endgame patterns, and utilize the necessary tools for tournament play. Each week, students will learn at least one theme on the display board, practice and create their own positions using that theme, and then engage in a tournament game against another student. All students will be able to earn prizes for their hard work.If Bexley schools are closed for weather-related reasons, classes will be held online via Zoom. Instructions will be emailed to participants. Instructor: Kyle JonesKyle has coached more than 20 schools over the past 20 years. Kyle graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's in Science in Psychology, is completing his Master’s in Early Childhood Education, earned his Protecting God’s Children certification, and has achieved the titles of Candidate Master (classical) and National Master (blitz) from the United States Chess Federation. From player to coach, Kyle has been a part of more than 40 state championship titles and 15 national titles. He was crowned the 2015-16 State of Ohio Speed Chess Champion (3rd title overall). Additionally, he was honored by Fox Sports Ohio, the Dispatch, 10tv, the Governor, the Mayor, the Board of Education, the Senate and the House of Representatives for his chess achievements.

Pilates lengthens and strengthens the muscles as well as uses core strength for every exercise. Although pilates is non-aerobic, it is an extremely effective way to strengthen and condition the muscles of the abdomen and back, thus helping to build a “girdle of strength” around the spine.
