You will also learn the history of falconry, its origins, and the importance raptors (hawks, eagles, owls and falcons) play in the earth’s ecosystems including Bexley’s Jeffrey Woods and urban arboretum. (A few participants over the age of 9 will be selected at random through a drawing for the rare opportunity of having a raptor fly to their glove.)Valentine's Woodland Walk (Feb. 10)Instructor: Tom KirkerThe woodland is slowly waking to the signs of spring, and love is in the air. Sparrows, finches, cardinals and starlings can be heard singing on sunny days. Owls and skunks are mating, and other critters are repairing nests and dens. February is also the snowiest month of the year, so participants will look for animal tracks and learn how woodland animals make adaptations to survive cold winter weather. We will also have some nuts to throw out to woodland critters as a special Valentine’s treat. Bundle up!Ohio Wildlife Presentation & Rescue (Mar. 9)Instructor: Ohio Wildlife Center EducatorPlease join an instructor from Ohio Wildlife Center's Education Department along with a few of their resident animal ambassadors for an informative and fun presentation and history of some of Ohio’s native wildlife - along with inspirational stories of animal rescues. In addition, important information will be shared about conservation, co-existing with wildlife and what to do and who to call if you come across an abandoned or injured animal - which happens frequently in our community. Spring Migratory Bird & Warbler Walk (Apr. 20 or 27 - based on migratory schedule)Instructor: James MullerParticipants will be notified of the actual date by the beginning of April.Grab your binoculars and join nationally recognized birding expert James Muller for a fun and bird-informative stroll through Jeffrey Woods. Meet resident and migratory birds including a variety of warblers stopping over at Jeffrey Woods on their way back north. All skill levels are welcome. Binoculars are helpful, but we can share.Spring Wildflower & Plant Stroll (Apr. 27)Instructor: Tom KirkerSpringtime is in bloom with emerging plants, leaves and wildflowers. Jeffrey Woods has many wildflower varieties including bloodroot, spring beauties, toothworts, bluebells, mayapples and more. While not everything will be in bloom, you will learn about them so you can visit later. Wildflower handouts will be available. Instructor: Joe DorianJoe is the Founder/Executive Director of the Ohio School of Falconry (OSF). He and his wife Kim, and their two children, are longtime Bexley residents and share Joe’s passion for birds of prey and the sport of falconry. At some point, the entire family has been involved with the school. 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM    Senior Yoga WI/SP 24 (55+) - Senior Yoga SP 24 (S2)
Studies have shown the positive benefits of yoga for all ages. Yoga involves linking the mind, body, and breath. You do not have to be flexible or fit to start practicing yoga. Specifically designed for older adults, Beginner Yoga for Seniors, will teach you breathing techniques to calm the mind and/or energize the body. You will learn various poses to stretch and strengthen your muscles. The number one rule is that you do not do anything that hurts. This is not a gym workout. It is a body/mind work in. By paying attention to your body, you will learn to be more present and mindful. This is a mat yoga class. You need to be able to get down to the floor and back up again. If that is a problem, consider Chair Yoga. It has the same benefits.Instructor: Deborah Forsblom, RYT 500, Certified Chair Yoga, Certified Trauma Sensitive Yogaforsblombd@gmail.com; (614) 253-2292Deborah has been teaching yoga for more than eight years. She has taught Chair Yoga at Grant Fitness and many classes for Bexley Recreation and Jeffrey Mansion and the Bexley Senior Center. Our program combines the expertise of highly trained speech and occupational therapists with the joys of playtime using obstacle courses, sensory bins, crafts, story-time and fine-motor activities. Our class is sure to be a fun and engaging learning and relationship-building experience for children and their caregivers. Whether you're looking for a challenge, need support or just a place to have fun, we meet every child where they are developmentally and can curate our class to all. Instructors: Christina Johnson and Alexis MarinChristina is a licensed Occupational Therapist and has been practicing since 2015. She graduated from Rush University in Chicago with a Masters of Occupational Therapy following a Bachelors of Psychology at The Ohio State University (go bucks!).  She has worked with children of all ages and in various settings including a sensory-based outpatient clinic and in early invention. She has two children, Rooney (girl, age 3) and Delta (boy, age 1) and is married to her husband, Matt. She has always used a play-based approach to therapy but was ready to step outside the therapy world and use her background to provide fun, engaging classes through The Play Spot that focuses on building developmental skills with her partner and friend, Alexis (speech therapist). She enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to podcasts, live music, reading and being outside.Alexis has been a practicing speech-language pathologist (SLP) for the past 8 years. She received degrees from Butler University (Go Dawgs!) and Indiana State. Alexis found her passion in pediatrics and has previously served in sensory clinics, schools, and in-home all with a focus on PLAY. Outside of the speech world, Alexis enjoys spending time outdoors exploring in and around Columbus with her two children Jayce and Ayla, partner John, and dog Nyla. She also enjoys self-development podcasts, DIYs, and trying local coffee shops. She's thrilled to partner with her friend and fellow OT, Christina, to mainstream their play skills to the general public and provide fun, educational classes through The Play Spot!

Candidate Master coach Kyle Jones welcomes students of all ages and levels to come learn the storied game of chess. Whether you are just learning the game or an experienced veteran, coach Jones makes sure to integrate all levels into his lesson planning to ensure everyone is able to learn. In addition to the comprehensive lessons, Mr. Jones utilizes a chess playing interface (lichess.org) to provide the students with an opportunity to practice their techniques. The second half of the class is featured on lichess.org. Once enrolled, students are given access to our private club room to participate in weekly tournament games. The tournament is an arena format that allows students to play as many games as possible within the assigned time limit. In real life tournaments, children must wait until everyone has finished their games and are only given a set number of games to play. This opportunity provides students with the means to play as soon as a new match is made available. Less waiting and more playing! Additionally, games are recorded by the computer allowing students to review moves and tactics afterward. Instructor: Kyle JonesKyle has coached more than 20 schools over the past 20 years.
