Have you ever wanted to try yoga, but didn’t think you could get up and down on a mat? Would you like to practice a gentle form of yoga in which you will sit or stand behind a chair? Chair Yoga is modified to be accessible to all. Science has shown that yoga is beneficial for everyone and it is never too late to benefit from exercising.Participants have the option to come in-person or participate via Zoom. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot.  In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition. This five week class will cover all of the traditional Taekwondo training disciplines and will prepare the student for promotion testing.  However, the focus will be on competition forms and sparring including tactics and strategic decision making.  Sparring equipment will be mandatory and will be available for purchase or borrow.  The class will culminate with a promotion test, demonstration, and tournament on the last day.Pre-Requisite: This session is only open to returning Taekwondo students.Instructor: Carl LaVerdiereCarl is a third degree black belt who has been  teaching since 2011. He received his training in South Charleston, WV under the instruction of Grand Master Sok Ho Kang.

Bexley’s own summer soccer camp tradition for over 30 years!! Our goal is to enhance the playing ability of each participant, while creating an environment in which everyone is encouraged to learn, improve, and enjoy the world’s most popular sport – SOCCER!!All of our camps are designed to emphasize the fundamentals of the game for individual players of all levels. Just For Kicks develops needed skills in a FUN, instructional, and small-sided game setting for all participants. NEW for 2025! We are excited to introduce a new Kindergarten T-Ball League focused on player development through games, much like Bexley’s other baseball leagues. Instead of focusing solely on instruction, this league emphasizes learning through play, allowing young athletes to develop their skills in a fun, game-based environment. Parent volunteers will coach the teams, creating a strong community connection for both parents and players.Teams will practice once a week on Sundays, and games will be held once a week, either on Monday or Wednesday, with the day varying each week. Games will take place at Maryland Elementary School fields.Equipment Requirements:All players are required to provide their own glove, pants (no gym shorts), cleats/tennis shoes, and water bottle. Participants will move through a variety of stations using body weight as resistance, dumbbells for strength training, and medicine balls for core and floor exercises. Equipment is provided. **THE PROGRAM DATES FOR THE SUMMER SECTION WERE MISPRINTED IN THE ACTIVITY GUIDE. WHAT IS LISTED BELOW IS UPDATED AND ACCURATE**Pilates lengthens and strengthens the muscles as well as uses core strength for every exercise. Although pilates is non-aerobic, it is an extremely effective way to strengthen and condition the muscles of the abdomen and back, thus helping to build a “girdle of strength” around the spine. The focus of this series is on balance and fall avoidance. Each week we will unwrap a different element of balance. These elements will help us understand balance and can help with fall avoidance. Gentle Yoga is not a gym workout, but a body/mind work in. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot.  In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition. This five week class will cover all of the traditional Taekwondo training disciplines and will prepare the student for promotion testing.  However, the focus will be on competition forms and sparring including tactics and strategic decision making.  Sparring equipment will be mandatory and will be available for purchase or borrow.  The class will culminate with a promotion test, demonstration, and tournament on the last day.Pre-Requisite: This session is only open to returning Taekwondo students.Instructor: Carl LaVerdiereCarl is a third degree black belt who has been  teaching since 2011. A mindful style of yoga that uses longer holds to access the fascia and connective tissue in the body. In Yin Yoga postures are more passive asanas, mainly done on the floor. Yin Yoga is unique in that you are asked to relax in the posture, soften the muscles and move closer to the bone. It is not uncommon to see postures held for 3-7 minutes. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot.  In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition. This five week class will cover all of the traditional Taekwondo training disciplines and will prepare the student for promotion testing.  However, the focus will be on competition forms and sparring including tactics and strategic decision making.  Sparring equipment will be mandatory and will be available for purchase or borrow.  The class will culminate with a promotion test, demonstration, and tournament on the last day.Pre-Requisite: This session is only open to returning Taekwondo students.Instructor: Carl LaVerdiereCarl is a third degree black belt who has been  teaching since 2011. Kidz Home Alone (9 - 12 Years Old)Are you ready to educate your child about the responsibilities of being home alone? Our goal is to assist every student to feel more comfortable while home alone. This interactive course teaches topics such as First Aid, Self Heimlich maneuver, reasons to call 911, fire escape plans, microwave safety and how to problem-solve out of the ordinary situations. A parent guide is included in the student manual which provides helpful discussion points between parent and child.  Parents do not need to attend the class.Better Babysitters (10 - 14 Years Old)Would your child know what to do if the child they were babysitting were choking? Does your child babysit their younger siblings? Your child will learn the skills needed to be a Better Baby Sitter! This class includes guest speakers from the local Police and Fire Departments. All students will receive their own first aid kit to take home. This class is appropriate for boys and girls ages 10-14, and is interactive and fun with role play and hands on instruction. A fully stocked First Aid kit will be given to each student to keep and is included in the cost of the class. Students will need to bring a large and medium sized stuffed animal with arms and legs to class along with a snack/lunch each day.

Interested in learning the basics of film making? In this collaborative program, kids ages 11-13 will work together to create a short video (either a 1-2 minute movie trailer, music video or short film) by writing a script outline, creating shot lists and storyboards, then shooting the movie as a team with their own smartphones. Instructors will help edit the videos, put in music, sound effects and graphics to finish everything with the kids' guidance, then everyone will watch them for final approval before being sent the finished videos for their friends and family to see!Instructor Bio: Travis Irvine is a Bexley-born-and-raised filmmaker, journalist, comedian and unsuccessful politician. Travis has written and directed two feature films about killer raccoons that are available from cult film distributors Troma Entertainment and Indican Pictures. In 2007, Travis ran for mayor of Bexley and turned the experience into a short documentary called American Mayor, which was featured at The Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and is now available with his two other short documentaries on Vimeo On-Demand. A graduate of Columbia Journalism School, Travis spends his time between Ohio and Los Angeles.

NEW for 2025! We are excited to introduce a new Kindergarten T-Ball League focused on player development through games, much like Bexley’s other baseball leagues. Instead of focusing solely on instruction, this league emphasizes learning through play, allowing young athletes to develop their skills in a fun, game-based environment. Parent volunteers will coach the teams, creating a strong community connection for both parents and players.Teams will practice once a week on Sundays, and games will be held once a week, either on Monday or Wednesday, with the day varying each week. In this collaborative program, kids ages 11-13 will work together to create a short video (either a 1-2 minute movie trailer, music video or short film) by writing a script outline, creating shot lists and storyboards, then shooting the movie as a team with their own smartphones. Instructors will help edit the videos, put in music, sound effects and graphics to finish everything with the kids' guidance, then everyone will watch them for final approval before being sent the finished videos for their friends and family to see!Instructor Bio: Travis Irvine is a Bexley-born-and-raised filmmaker, journalist, comedian and unsuccessful politician. Travis has written and directed two feature films about killer raccoons that are available from cult film distributors Troma Entertainment and Indican Pictures. In 2007, Travis ran for mayor of Bexley and turned the experience into a short documentary called American Mayor, which was featured at The Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and is now available with his two other short documentaries on Vimeo On-Demand. A graduate of Columbia Journalism School, Travis spends his time between Ohio and Los Angeles.

Gentle Yoga is not a gym workout, but a body/mind work in. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot.  In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition. This five week class will cover all of the traditional Taekwondo training disciplines and will prepare the student for promotion testing.  However, the focus will be on competition forms and sparring including tactics and strategic decision making.  Sparring equipment will be mandatory and will be available for purchase or borrow.  The class will culminate with a promotion test, demonstration, and tournament on the last day.Pre-Requisite: This session is only open to returning Taekwondo students.Instructor: Carl LaVerdiereCarl is a third degree black belt who has been  teaching since 2011. Kidz Home Alone (9 - 12 Years Old)Are you ready to educate your child about the responsibilities of being home alone? Our goal is to assist every student to feel more comfortable while home alone. This interactive course teaches topics such as First Aid, Self Heimlich maneuver, reasons to call 911, fire escape plans, microwave safety and how to problem-solve out of the ordinary situations. A parent guide is included in the student manual which provides helpful discussion points between parent and child.  Parents do not need to attend the class.Better Babysitters (10 - 14 Years Old)Would your child know what to do if the child they were babysitting were choking? Does your child babysit their younger siblings? Your child will learn the skills needed to be a Better Baby Sitter! This class includes guest speakers from the local Police and Fire Departments. All students will receive their own first aid kit to take home. This class is appropriate for boys and girls ages 10-14, and is interactive and fun with role play and hands on instruction. A fully stocked First Aid kit will be given to each student to keep and is included in the cost of the class. Students will need to bring a large and medium sized stuffed animal with arms and legs to class along with a snack/lunch each day.

Instead of focusing solely on instruction, this league emphasizes learning through play, allowing young athletes to develop their skills in a fun, game-based environment. Parent volunteers will coach the teams, creating a strong community connection for both parents and players.Teams will practice once a week on Sundays, and games will be held once a week, either on Monday or Wednesday, with the day varying each week. In this collaborative program, kids ages 11-13 will work together to create a short video (either a 1-2 minute movie trailer, music video or short film) by writing a script outline, creating shot lists and storyboards, then shooting the movie as a team with their own smartphones. Instructors will help edit the videos, put in music, sound effects and graphics to finish everything with the kids' guidance, then everyone will watch them for final approval before being sent the finished videos for their friends and family to see!Instructor Bio: Travis Irvine is a Bexley-born-and-raised filmmaker, journalist, comedian and unsuccessful politician. Travis has written and directed two feature films about killer raccoons that are available from cult film distributors Troma Entertainment and Indican Pictures. In 2007, Travis ran for mayor of Bexley and turned the experience into a short documentary called American Mayor, which was featured at The Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and is now available with his two other short documentaries on Vimeo On-Demand. A graduate of Columbia Journalism School, Travis spends his time between Ohio and Los Angeles.

A mindful style of yoga that uses longer holds to access the fascia and connective tissue in the body. In Yin Yoga postures are more passive asanas, mainly done on the floor. Yin Yoga is unique in that you are asked to relax in the posture, soften the muscles and move closer to the bone. It is not uncommon to see postures held for 3-7 minutes. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot.  In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition. Lioness Soccer Summer CampDay Camp Option (Entering 1st - Entering 8th)Our super popular soccer camp is back for the summer of 2025!  Our camp is designed for female players of all skill levels who want to learn and continue to develop their soccer skills in a fun and encouraging manner. Campers will be given an opportunity to grow their playing experiences by learning from the Bexley HS Girls Soccer Players and Coaches. Each day will be filled with a variety of activities to promote the development of each campers skills, including: ball mastery drills, skill competitions, small sided games and large sided scrimmages. Each camper will receive an exclusive camp t-shirt and admittance to 1 Varsity Home Match for the 2023 season. Players will need to bring shin guards, soccer ball, cleats, a big water bottle and a small snack.Night Camp Option (Entering 6th - Entering 8th)We will hold our Middle School Only Camp. This three day camp will focus on developing the campers in a team setting. Campers will experience training sessions, like the ones from the Bexley High School team, from the coaching staff and current players. Chair Yoga is modified to be accessible to all. Science has shown that yoga is beneficial for everyone and it is never too late to benefit from exercising.Participants have the option to come in-person or participate via Zoom. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot.  In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition. This five week class will cover all of the traditional Taekwondo training disciplines and will prepare the student for promotion testing.  However, the focus will be on competition forms and sparring including tactics and strategic decision making.  Sparring equipment will be mandatory and will be available for purchase or borrow.  The class will culminate with a promotion test, demonstration, and tournament on the last day.Pre-Requisite: This session is only open to returning Taekwondo students.Instructor: Carl LaVerdiereCarl is a third degree black belt who has been  teaching since 2011. Kidz Home Alone (9 - 12 Years Old)Are you ready to educate your child about the responsibilities of being home alone? Our goal is to assist every student to feel more comfortable while home alone. This interactive course teaches topics such as First Aid, Self Heimlich maneuver, reasons to call 911, fire escape plans, microwave safety and how to problem-solve out of the ordinary situations. A parent guide is included in the student manual which provides helpful discussion points between parent and child.  Parents do not need to attend the class.Better Babysitters (10 - 14 Years Old)Would your child know what to do if the child they were babysitting were choking? Does your child babysit their younger siblings? Your child will learn the skills needed to be a Better Baby Sitter! This class includes guest speakers from the local Police and Fire Departments. All students will receive their own first aid kit to take home. This class is appropriate for boys and girls ages 10-14, and is interactive and fun with role play and hands on instruction. A fully stocked First Aid kit will be given to each student to keep and is included in the cost of the class. Students will need to bring a large and medium sized stuffed animal with arms and legs to class along with a snack/lunch each day.

Gentle Yoga is not a gym workout, but a body/mind work in. Taekwondo is the ancient and scientific art of self defense; it literally means the way of striking with the fist or foot.  In this class, you will learn dynamic kicks and punches while meeting new friends in a positive environment. This class will provide an atmosphere where you can learn various virtues of the martial arts that include self-discipline, respect, concentration, and competition. This five week class will cover all of the traditional Taekwondo training disciplines and will prepare the student for promotion testing.  However, the focus will be on competition forms and sparring including tactics and strategic decision making.  Sparring equipment will be mandatory and will be available for purchase or borrow.  The class will culminate with a promotion test, demonstration, and tournament on the last day.Pre-Requisite: This session is only open to returning Taekwondo students.Instructor: Carl LaVerdiereCarl is a third degree black belt who has been  teaching since 2011. Kidz Home Alone (9 - 12 Years Old)Are you ready to educate your child about the responsibilities of being home alone? Our goal is to assist every student to feel more comfortable while home alone. This interactive course teaches topics such as First Aid, Self Heimlich maneuver, reasons to call 911, fire escape plans, microwave safety and how to problem-solve out of the ordinary situations. A parent guide is included in the student manual which provides helpful discussion points between parent and child.  Parents do not need to attend the class.Better Babysitters (10 - 14 Years Old)Would your child know what to do if the child they were babysitting were choking? Does your child babysit their younger siblings? Your child will learn the skills needed to be a Better Baby Sitter! This class includes guest speakers from the local Police and Fire Departments. All students will receive their own first aid kit to take home. This class is appropriate for boys and girls ages 10-14, and is interactive and fun with role play and hands on instruction. A fully stocked First Aid kit will be given to each student to keep and is included in the cost of the class. Students will need to bring a large and medium sized stuffed animal with arms and legs to class along with a snack/lunch each day.

**THE PROGRAM DATES FOR THE SUMMER SECTION WERE MISPRINTED IN THE ACTIVITY GUIDE. WHAT IS LISTED BELOW IS UPDATED AND ACCURATE**Pilates lengthens and strengthens the muscles as well as uses core strength for every exercise. Although pilates is non-aerobic, it is an extremely effective way to strengthen and condition the muscles of the abdomen and back, thus helping to build a “girdle of strength” around the spine. This class is for both beginners and those who are still learning the basic poses, but are prepared to work on a more demanding  level in poses.  This class offers basic flexibility poses in different degrees of work. Studies have shown the positive benefits of yoga for all ages. Yoga involves linking the mind, body, and breath. You do not have to be flexible or fit to start practicing yoga. This class will teach you breathing techniques to calm the mind and/or energize the body. You will learn various poses to stretch and strengthen your muscles. Gentle Yoga is not a gym workout, but a body/mind work in. By paying attention to your body, you will learn to be more present and mindful.This is a mat yoga class which will require getting down to the floor and back up again.
